Honored alumni
Five Dana College alumni will be honored at the Awards Buffet Friday
evening at 5:30 p.m.
Dr. John Christensen ’71, recently named chancellor of the
University of Nebraska-Omaha, will receive the Distinguished Alumni
Award.
Maria Roesler ’05 will be honored as the Outstanding Young
Alumna for her work with ProLiteracy Worldwide in the Dominican Republic.
Husband and wife Ben ’98 and Angela (Sparacino ’98) Sandy
will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in honor of their
outstanding achievements in the early years of the revival of the
Dana College track and cross country programs.
Roger Howland ’64, Dana College’s first-ever four-year
letterman in wrestling, will also be inducted into the Athletic Hall
of Fame for his outstanding support of Viking athletics.
“Viking Varieties”
Dust off your clarinet, ventriloquist dummy or vocal cords and showcase
your talents at “Viking Varieties” Friday evening! Back
by popular demand, performers at this year’s alumni revue will
also include future alumni (current students). The always-entertaining
Duey Heffelfinger ’88 will emcee the event. Interested performers
can contact Julie by email (alumni@dana.edu) or phone (402-426-7235).
20th Anniversary of the Tower of the Four Winds
For recent Dana alumni, walks, talks and picnics at the Tower of
the Four Winds at Black Elk-Neihardt Park (just up the Dana Hill)
were part of your college experience. The tower, named for Lakota
Sioux Indian Chief Black Elk and Nebraska's 'Poet Laureate in Perpetuity’ John
G. Neihardt, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Events include
a pancake feed, Native American music by flutist Michael Murphy
and a program featuring Alexis Petri, granddaughter of John G. Neihardt.
Artwork of Professor Emeritus F.W. Thomsen, designer of the tower,
will be hosted by his son, Paul Thomsen ’65, at Thomsen’s
home on College Drive. For more information, visit www.benpark.org.
Alumni College
For the second year, you can re-experience your college years with
Saturday morning classes. Classes will coordinate with the 20th anniversary
of the Tower of the Four Winds at Black Elk-Neihardt Park. This year’s
LARP session will feature “Black Elk Speaks” by John
G. Neihardt, a book read three different semesters in the 40-year
history of LARP. Alexi Petri, Neihardt’s great-grandaughter
will speak on John G. Neihardt, during one session. A booksigning
by Dana alumni and faculty authors will also be held. Preregister
for these free classes so presenters can prepare.
Residence Hall Open House
Come to see how Holling was renovated in 2006. Mickelsen’s
new community-centered living (completed this fall) helps Dana’s
housing appeal to students today. Also, stop in to see the new Suite
Style Apartments. Bid farewell to Argo Hall by writing on the walls!
Bring a pen or marker and leave a message, tell a story, draw a picture
or simply sign your name on the wall in your old room in Argo. This
symbolic farewell can be as silly or as serious as you wish. The
hall is empty, come to fill it with farewells!
Class Reunion Dinners
All classes ending in years “7” or “2” will
hold individual class reunions at area restaurants. Contact your
classmates and encourage them to meet you after the game at the designated
location for your class. Watch your mail for more details about these
class-specific gatherings.
