Showings display National Geographic, Hans Christian Andersen works

Two traveling exhibits are bringing a taste of Denmark to Dana College this fall.

A showing of 25 of Sisse Brimberg’s photographs is on display in The Forum in the Margre Henningson Durham Center on Dana’s campus. Brimberg has been a photographer with National Geographic since 1976. Her work has appeared in more than 30 articles, ranging from documenting the life of Hans Christian Andersen to her cover story chronicling the Viking culture. Brimberg has been honored by the National Press Photographers Association with “Picture Story of the Year” for her reporting on migrant workers.

Brimberg was born in Denmark and now lives in California. Her work has been exhibited worldwide. This exhibit is sponsored by the Royal Danish Embassy in Washington D.C. and is made possible by a generous gift from the Honorable Anelise Sawkins, Royal Danish Counsul for Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

The Brimberg Exhibit will be on display until Nov. 1. Admission is free.

Dana is also proud to be the site for an exhibit on the Life and Art of Hans Christian Andersen. The exhibit is on loan from the Odense City Museum in Denmark and is located in the Madsen Fine Arts Center on Dana’s campus.

The exhibition seeks to help people gain a greater understanding of Andersen’s life as one of the world’s best-known and most-prolifically translated authors. He is especially remembered for the many beautiful fairy tales he wrote.

Pieces in the exhibition include paintings and illustrations of people Andersen knew, as well as other influences on his life and work.

The Life and Art of Hans Christian Anderson will be on display through Dana’s annual Sights and Sounds of Christmas festival, Dec. 8.

Dana College is a private, liberal arts institution that currently enrolls approximately 600 students. The campus is located on 150 acres overlooking the Missouri River Valley in Blair, Neb. Dana grants bachelor’s degrees in more than 20 liberal arts, business, education and pre-professional programs, with an emphasis on personalized teaching from experienced and dedicated faculty. Dana is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and its athletic teams compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
