William R. Hall is Assistant
Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Studies at Dana
College. He serves as Conductor of the Concert Band, teaches conducting
and upper level music education courses, and instructs the Low
Brass Studio. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from
The Ohio State University in 1970 and a Master of Music in Trombone
Performance from Catholic University of America in 1980. Prof.
Hall is a candidate for the Ph. D. in Music Education at Kent State
University specializing in Instrumental Conducting and Curriculum.
For 15 years, Hall was a public
school music educator in Ohio, teaching vocal, general, and instrumental
music in grades K-12. Both his concert and marching bands consistently
received Superior ratings in local, district, state, and regional
competitions. Prof. Hall is a respected solo and ensemble, marching
band, and concert band adjudicator, and is in frequent demand as
a clinician and guest conductor.
In 1974, William Hall became
a member of The United States Army Band (Pershings Own),
serving as a trombonist in the Ceremonial Band. From 1976 to 1981,
He toured the the continental United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico
and the U.S. Virgin Islands as Assistant Principal Trombone of
The United States Army Field Band, and was awarded the Army Commendation
Medal for his meritorious service. He was also a bass trombonist
with the Canton (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra and The American Wind
Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Hall performs as principal euphonium
with the Nebraska Wind Symphony.
William Halls professional
memberships include Music Educators National Conference, Nebraska
Music Educators Association, the national music honorary Pi Kappa
Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kapp Kappa Psi, Nebraska State Bandmasters
Association, American School Band Directors Association, College
Band Directors National Association, and The International Society
for the Promotion and Investigation of Wind Band Music. Prof. Hall
serves the profession as Vice President of the Nebraska chapter
of the international bandmasters fraternity Phi Beta Mu, and as
Chair of College/University Affairs for the Nebraska Music Educators
Association.
