DANA COLLEGE CONCERT BAND TO OFFER CONCERT FILLED WITH VARIETY

Free performance will feature samples
from the Classical to Modern periods

The Dana College Concert Band will present its first concert of the 2003–04 season on Sunday, Oct. 26. The concert will be at 3 p.m. in the Laurtizen Theatre, Madsen Fine Arts Center on Dana’s campus in Blair, Neb. It is a free concert and the public is invited to attend.

The concert will feature a wide variety of music drawn from German, Italian, Austrian, Dutch and American composers, with selections from the Classical to Modern Period.

From the Classical period, the Concert Band will perform Mozart’s last completed work, the motet Ave Verum Corpus, and Il Signor Bruschino, an early overture by comic opera genius Gioachino Rossini. From the Romantic Period is Franz von Blon’s march Die Wacht am Rhein. Suite Provençale, by Dutch composer Jan Van der Roost, captures the folk music style of southern France. The Concert Band will also perform Contemporary works by Jack Stamp (Gavorkna Fanfare), Francis McBeth (Canticle) and David Holsinger (Prelude and Rondo).

The Concert Band’s next performance will be at Dana’s Sights & Sounds of Christmas festival, Dec. 6 and 7. For more information, see www.dana.edu/sightsandsounds.

The Dana College Concert Band is the primary instrumental ensemble at Dana College. It’s also a place to shine.
