Vikings Split with Hastings
Blair, Nebraska ~ Viking baseball
travelled to Hastings, Nebraska on Saturday in GPAC action. Dana split
the two game series with the Broncos. Dana dropped the first game 5-3
to Hastings, but responded with a 7-4 victory in the night cap.
The Vikings took a 1-0 in the top of the first
inning. Taylor Hoskinson (FR, Omaha, NE) led the game off
getting hit by a pitch. Andrew James (FR, Omaha, NE) reached
base on an error by the Bronco third baseman. Quentin Connealy
(SR, Tekamah, NE) drove in Hoskinson with a ground out to second base.
Hastings put two runs up in the bottom of the first and two more in the
bottom of the third. The Vikings responded with two more runs in the
top of the fourth inning. Tim Sabadin (SR, Lake Elizabeth, CA)
led off with a single. Alex Johnson (FR, Red Oak, IA) moved
Sabadin to second with a single. Andrew Cookston (FR, Lincoln,
NE) loaded the bases with a walk. Anthony Teal (JR, Omaha, NE)
singled to score Sabadin. Drew Petersen (FR, Omaha, NE) hit into
a double play, but Alex Johnson was able to score o the play. The
Vikings were unable to pull any closer. Austin Lunn (FR, Omaha,
NE), Sabadin, Johnson, and Teal had the Vikings four hits. Lunn also
stole three bases in the game. Connealy, Teal, and Petersen drove in
the three runs. Robert Riggs (SO, Council Bluffs, IA) pitched
four and two-thirds innings and suffered the loss. He allowed seven
hits and five runs. Cody Falk (FR, Arlington, NE) pitched a
third of an inning. Anthony Teal pitched the final inning allowing no
runs and striking out one.
Dana snapped an eight game losing streak in the
night cap. The Vikings scored single runs in the first, third, and
seventh innings. They also put up two runs in the fourth and sixth
innings. Taylor Hoskinson went two for four on the day with two runs
batted in. Alex Johnson went three for four with two RBI’s and a run
scored. Andrew Cookston finished his day with a single and a double.
He also scored a run. Cody Falk was one for three with a triple.
Hoskinson and Andrew James each had a stolen base. Three Viking
pitchers combined for the win. Matt Weeks (JR, Omaha, NE) picked
up the win. Weeks pitched five and a third innings of eight hit, five
run ball. He also struck-out for Bronco batters. Anthony Teal pitched
two-third of an inning, giving up two runs and one hit. John Ocken
(FR, Omaha, NE) pitched the last inning to notch his fifth save of
the year.

Dana is now 8-25 overall and 5-13 in conference
play. Dana will host Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday.
