Vikings
Swept in Kansas
The Dana College baseball team
travelled to Salina, Kan., to take on Kansas Wesleyan Wednesday. The
Coyotes swept the Vikings, 8-3 and 11-1.
Dana raced out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Quentin
Connealy (SR, Tekamah, Neb.) singled to start the inning. He was
then advanced to second on a Marcus Schultz (FR, Jackson, Minn.)
sacrifice bunt. Connealy and Taylor Hoskinson (FR, Omaha, Neb.)
scored when Andrew James (FR, Omaha, Neb.) singled to right.
The bottom of the inning was not one for the record books. Dana
pitchers gave up five runs on five hits. The Viking defense also
committed two errors in the inning. The Coyotes capitalized on two more
Viking errors in the bottom of the third inning. Kansas Wesleyan
clubbed two more hits for three runs.
Dana got one run back in the top of the fourth. Connealy started things
off with a single to center. He advanced to second on a Drew
Petersen (FR, Omaha, Neb.) single. James came up with a clutch one
out single to drive in Connealy. This was as close as Dana came.
Pete Treantos (FR, Omaha, Neb.) and Anthony Teal (JR,
Omaha, Neb.) each pitched three innings. Treantos suffered the loss. He
gave up eight hits and eight runs (two earned). Teal allowed only one
hit in his three innings of work.
Game two saw Viking pitchers give up 11 hits and 11 runs. Dana’s
offense could muster only one run on six hits. Six different Vikings
hit singles. Alex Johnson (FR, Red Oak, Iowa) drove in the
Vikings’ lone run.
Hoskinson took the loss for Dana. He pitched two innings, gave up four
hits and five runs (three earned). Charlie Kimble (FR, Omaha,
Neb.) pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief. He gave up seven
hits and six earned runs.
