Michelle Young only winner not from a major university

Dana College is proud to announce that Michelle Young, a senior from North Platte, Neb., has been awarded one of 10 national scholarships from the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA).

Young won the Omaha Chapter of ASWA’s scholarship competition in spring, and had her application forwarded for the national competition. She competed with accounting students from all over the country.

In addition to the $1,000 she received from the Omaha Chapter, Young will get another $2,000 to finish her schooling at Dana.

The scholarship is available to part-time or full-time students entering their senior years in an accounting program. Successful applicants must have 60 hours of course work completed at an accredited school. Applications are judged based on the student’s academic background, employment history, awards and honors, financial situation, quality of references, the student’s career goals and her ability to communicate well.

“ What a great honor for Michelle and for Dana,” said Carol King, assistant professor of business at Dana College and member of ASWA. “Out of the 10 national winners, Michelle was the only student not from a major university.”

Michelle Young is the daughter of Andrew and Doris Young of North Platte. She is a business administration major and a member of the Dana Diplomats and Business Club.

Dana College is a private, liberal arts institution that currently enrolls approximately 600 students. The campus is located on 150 acres overlooking the Missouri River Valley in Blair, Neb. Dana grants bachelor’s degrees in more than 35 liberal arts, business, education and pre-professional programs, with an emphasis on personalized teaching from experience and dedicated faculty. Dana is affiliated with the Nebraska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and its athletic teams compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
