HOW TO BECOME INVOLVED IN THE CAREER FAIR OR OTHER EVENTS

Dana College sponsored Career Fairs and other events are wonderful opportunities for Employers to meet Dana students. For a complete list of career events for the next several months, consult the Schedule of Events. Dana students graduate in December, January, May, and August, with the greatest proportion graduating in May.

CAREER FAIR & OTHER EVENTS
Click here for Employer Fair Registration: Registration for the Career and Graduate School Fair

Dana College holds a career/job /graduate & professional school fair each spring for all majors. Please contact our office at career@dana.edu or 402-426-7258 to be placed on the mailing list to receive information about the event. A postcard with the date will be sent to you about three months before the fair, followed by a registration packet about two months ahead. Registration is open on a first-come-first-served basis. A fee which includes two lunches is charged. The earlier you register, the more advance publicity your attendance will receive and the more likely students are to arrange to contact you at the fair.

Various other events are held throughout the year which provide employers an opportunity to interact with students. Panel discussions provide an opportunity for students to hear 3-5 professionals talk about their field. An opportunity for questions and answers follows the panel discussion.

Employers provide welcome assistance with these events:
• Industry, Occupational, or Job Search Panels
• Presentations on a variety of topics (Resumes, Cover Letters, Interviewing, Networking, etc.)
• Mock Interviews
• Informational Presentations on your Organization
If you wish to participate in one of these events, please contact the Director of Career Services at anelson@dana.edu, 402-426-7258.

ON CAMPUS RECRUITING AND INTERVIEWING

On-campus recruiting and interviewing for Teacher Education majors is held in February and March each year.

Employers who would like to interview students on campus should contact the Director of Career Services at career@dana.edu or 402-426-7258 to arrange the time and format of their on-campus interviews. Please read the Dana College Career Service’s Interview Policies and Procedures before scheduling your visit.

Employers wishing to recruit students may make arrangements through the Career Services office to set up a display in the high traffic concourse in the Campus Center across from the entrance to student dining by contacting our office at career@dana.edu or 402-426-7258.

NEBRASKA INTERVIEW CONSORTIUM

The Nebraska Interview Consortium (NIC) provides a convenient linkage between employers and graduating students from eleven of Nebraska's smaller four-year colleges and universities. With a single contact, employers can arrange interviews at a central location with students from all of the Consortium schools (a combined enrollment of approximately 18,000 full-time students and an average of 3,000 graduates annually!). It also puts the resumes of these students in a centralized database allowing for an expedient and efficient referral of candidates to employers. More information is available at the NIC website: http://www.nebrwesleyan.edu/services/nic/

To contact the Nebraska Interview Consortium to list positions, or for resume referrals contact Heather Hoops, NIC Coordinator at hhoops@nebrwesleyan.edu or 402-465-7573.

GENERAL CAREER SERVICES POLICIES FOR INTERVIEWING & RECRUITING

General Guidelines For On-Campus Recruiting
The Office of Career Services seeks to provide employers with appropriate and timely services. Furthermore, the Office seeks to ensure that students are appropriately prepared for the employer's recruiting visit. Accordingly, employers are asked to follow these guidelines.
• Provide advance notice of an on-campus recruiting visit (at least 3-4 weeks). The Career Services office will make sure that your visit coincides with a time that the students are on campus, and that the date does not conflict with other recruiters on campus.
• Provide, in advance, a job description/s of position/s being recruited.
• Provide on-line or hard copy resource information about the employing organization.
• Must not solicit or sell their products or services during the course of recruiting.
• Must fully disclose to Dana College Career Services, and to students/alums the structure of their compensation packages and business costs incurred up through the first year of employment. This includes salary, duration of salary, training allowance, incentive programs, stock options, commission structure, benefits, and any costs borne by the employee/applicant/independent contractor including testing, licenses, classes, travel expenses, and equipment.
• Must clearly indicate the employing organization name and contact information on any flyers and must not overstate possible compensation.
• The Office of Career Services professional staff reserves the right to investigate complaints by students about employers or jobs posted through the Office of Career Services. If the Office determines that a complaint is justified, the Office may choose to deny employer services to the employer involved. The Office of Career Services will notify the employer in writing should a situation result in this type of a decision.

Straight Commission
Employers with “straight commission” positions may request a room for an informational presentation regarding their organization and the positions available. We do not schedule interviews for straight commission positions, nor are they eligible for resume referrals.

Third Parties/Contract Recruiters
Third parties (employment agencies and search firms) may list openings online, however, they may not recruit on-campus or receive resume referrals. Contract Recruiters may recruit on campus if they are recruiting for only one employer and identify that employer.

Equal Employment
Only Equal Opportunity Employers may use Dana College facilities. Career Services professionals will maintain EEO compliance and follow affirmative action principles in career services activities in a manner that includes the following: Referring all interested students for employment opportunities without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability, and providing reasonable accommodations upon request.

Use of Facilities
Interview and presentation facilities arranged by Dana College Career Services are to be used solely to speak with students from Dana College or students from other institutions who have been invited by Career Services to participate in Career Services events. Exceptions to this policy must be requested of the Director in advance of the visit. Career Services has the right to request names of candidates interviewed in instances where an organization is setting up its own schedule.

NACE Principles
Employers recruiting at Dana College are expected to adhere to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Principles http://www.naceweb.org/committee/whitepapers/Principles_for_Professional_Conduct.pdf.
