The value of a college education depends upon the student’s
full participation in the life of the college and community. Because
students are expected not merely to receive information passively
or to pass examinations but to participate actively in class, it
is important that unnecessary class absences be avoided. Therefore,
students are expected to be present for all classes and no absence
will be automatically excused. Students will be responsible for all
missed work.
All faculty members will define their own grading policies in their
written course syllabi which may include grade penalty or removal
of the student from the course for excessive absences. [Copies of
these syllabi are on file in the Provost’s Office.] Any decision
to allow make-up work will be made by each instructor in accordance
with his or her attendance policy.
