Merit-based aid includes college funds awarded to recognize a student’s academic, athletic or fine arts ability. Full-time enrollment is required for all institutional scholarships and grants. The college reserves the right to limit the number and size of institutional grants and scholarships. A student will never receive institutional aid in excess of tuition. Failure to meet either eligibility or renewal requirements of a scholarship, or failure to participate in the scholarship area will result in the forfeiture of that award. Dana College is not responsible for replacing forfeited institutional grants or scholarships. Students receiving full-tuition scholarships are not eligible for additional Dana College scholarships and grants. Federal financial aid will be awarded if the student is otherwise eligible.

Academic Scholarships and Renewal Requirements
Academic scholarships are awarded to recognize a student’s academic ability.

Presidential Scholarships
These awards are based on the results of an on-campus competition. To be eligible, a student must be accepted for admission. Eligibility requirements include a 25 ACT composite and a 3.50 grade point average for high school seniors and a 3.50 college grade point average for transfer students.

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship
If you are a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, have a cumulative college GPA of at least 3.5, 45 semester hours of transferable college credit and plan to enroll at Dana full-time, you will be eligible for an annual scholarship up to $14,000.

Renewal Requirements for all Academic Scholarships
Scholarships ranging from $0 - $9,999 require a 3.0 cumulative GPA each year. Scholarships ranging from $10,000+ require a 3.25 cumulative GPA each year.

Cumulative GPAs are reviewed annually each June to determine if the renewal requirement is met. If the eligibility requirement is not met, it is still possible for a student to earn his or her scholarship back the following June, assuming the GPA requirement is met.

In addition to the GPA requirements outlined above, all academic scholarships require continuous enrollment to renew the scholarship from year to year. For example, if a student is receiving a Presidential scholarship and withdraws from Dana College for a semester or more, that student will not be entitled to a Presidential Scholarship upon his or her return to Dana College. Upon return, the student will be considered a transfer student for academic scholarship purposes.

Scholarships funds may be withheld from the student’s account until this form is returned to the financial aid office.

To receive an athletic scholarship, a student must be eligible to compete in the sport in accordance with guidelines established by the NAIA and Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). To be eligible to compete in Intercollegiate Athletics, new students must meet two of the following three requirements based on final high school transcripts. Students who do not meet these requirements are not eligible to compete in NAIA athletics for the first two semesters at Dana College.

  • 18 ACT score, or equivalent SAT

Eligibility requirements for transfer students differ. Please contact the athletic department for more details.

Lutheran Student Grants
As a means of encouraging Lutheran students to attend a college of the Church, and because Dana was founded by Danish Lutheran pioneers, Dana will award a grant of $1000 per year or $500 per semester to full-time students who are currently members of a Lutheran congregation.

To receive the grant, the student must have his or her pastor complete the Lutheran Student Grant Form, verifying current membership in a Lutheran Church. This form is available from either the Financial Aid Office or the Admissions Office and must be submitted by March 15th, our priority awarding deadline.

Heritage Award
This $1000 award is available to students whose parent attended Dana as a full-time student.

Dana Grant (AM Andersen Award)
This is a need based institutional grant program. This grant is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and who do not otherwise qualify for sufficient aid. Because this award is based solely upon need, a student who receives additional scholarship funds at a later date may subsequently lose Dana Grant funds.

Tuition Exchange Programs
Dana College offers competitive tuition exchange scholarships to dependents of faculty and staff employed at over 400 member institutions. Tuition remission recipients are limited to tuition calculated at 16 credits or fewer per semester. There are a limited number of tuition exchange scholarships available, so we encourage those considering this program to apply as early as possible. For more information about this program please contact the Vice President of Business Affairs at Dana College or the tuition exchange officer at your or your parent’s employer.

International Student Scholarships

Along with this application students must document their financial situation as requested on the application. Applications can be obtained from the International Student Coordinator located in the Admissions Office. In addition to the FSFAA, international students are required to complete an International Student Contract that will be mailed to them at the time of their acceptance for admission.

We have a limited number of restricted and endowed scholarships available to assist international students with their studies at Dana College.

There are limited numbers of loans available to international students, however most loan programs require a US citizen co- signer. The following lenders service international student loans:

International Travel and Study Fund
Initial funding from The Honorable Paul Simon, former US Senator and member of the Dana College Board of Regents, has made it possible to create an International Travel and Study Fund for Dana College students.

Students may apply for an interest-free loan to assist with individual or group travel and study abroad. Students will have a moral obligation to pay funds as soon as possible after graduation so that funding can be reutilized for future Dana students.

Funds may be used for semester, Discovery Term, or summer travel. A limited number of loans will be available each year. The range of funds will depend upon the number of applicants. Funds will not be available for institutionally subsidized travel such as Chorale, Band, or Athletic tours.

Criteria used for selection includes quality of application, faculty recommendation, academic achievement and financial need. Recipients must be able to return to Dana for at least one year of study after their study abroad experience and will share study abroad insights with the campus and community.

Further information and application forms are available in the Financial Aid Office and Languages and International Studies Office.
