The courses in Danish are offered to provide an opportunity for
students to learn the language and literature of the people who founded
Dana
College. The library contains a large collection of Danish literature
in the original language and translation. It is possible for students
interested in Danish language studies to spend a semester or a year
at Aalborg University in Denmark. Further information regarding this
and other similar programs is available from the Chair of the Language
Department.

DAN 101, DAN 102 Introduction
to Danish Language & Culture I, II 3 credits each semester
A two-semester sequence. An introduction to the Danish language and culture
stressing pronunciation, conversation, and essentials of grammar.

DAN 201 Intermediate Danish
I 3 credits
Exercises in reading, writing and conversation, with a review of grammar.
Prerequisite: DAN 102 Introduction to Danish Language & Culture
II or equivalent.

DAN 307 Scandinavian Literature
I 3 credits
A survey of Scandinavian literature from the period of the sagas and ballads
through the early nineteenth century.

DAN 308 Scandinavian Literature
II 3 credits
A survey of Scandinavian literature from the periods of the saga and ballads
through the present. No knowledge of a Scandinavian language is required since
translations are used. (Cross-listed as ENG 308)
Prerequisite: One literature survey course, equivalent or
permission of instructor.

DAN 399 Special Topics 1-3
credits
A selected area of study in Danish language and/or literature. The topic is
announced in the appropriate semester’s course schedule.
Prerequisite: Generally, sophomore standing or permission
of instructor. Offered as needed.

DAN 459 Danish Internship
l-4 credits
On-the-job learning with a cooperating employer in conjunction with a faculty
member. A minimum of 40 clock hours of supervised work is required for each
semester hour of credit.
Prerequisites: Minimum of 6 credits in Danish and permission
of instructor and department chair.
