This is an intensive, three-week program of internships, study abroad,
community service, and other special projects related to the interests
and goals of each student. Discovery Term takes place every year
in January and is designed to be a highly flexible expansion of the
concept of general and liberal education. The freedom in scheduling
provides a change from the fixed pattern of the longer fall and spring
semesters. Opportunity is given for off-campus and field experiences,
individual study and research for advanced students, travel study
tours as well as faculty and student exchanges with other colleges.
Students who are full-time in the fall and/or spring semester do
not pay additional fees for room, board or tuition for three credits
in the Discovery Term. Although enrollment in Discovery Term is optional,
most students choose to participate because of the special opportunities
offered. Students who elect not to participate as a full-time student
during Discovery Term may not reside in the residence halls during
that time and do not receive a refund for tuition or fees.
