Full Admission
A freshman applicant must meet the following two criteria to be considered for admission to Dana College:

  • have a composite score of 20 or above on the ACT or a score of 940 or above on the SAT I,
  • have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale).

A student who is not a graduate of an accredited high school may be considered for admission based on a GED score of 500.

Conditional Admission
Freshman applicants may be admitted on a conditional basis, subject to review of their performance after one semester at Dana, if they meet the following two requirements:

  • have a composite score of 18-19 on the ACT or a score of 860-930 on the SAT I,
  • have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale).

Students who are admitted conditionally must meet the following conditions during their first semester at Dana:

  1. take no more than 14 credit hours,
  2. take a course in written communication,
  3. maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or above.

Committee Admission
Applicants not meeting the minimum conditional admission criteria may petition the Academic Standards Committee for committee admission. Additional information, including a guidance counselor recommendation and a personal statement, may be required as part of the process. Students who are admitted by the committee must meet the following conditions during their first semester at Dana:

  1. take no more than 12 credit hours,
  2. enroll in the required course taught by the Learning Resources Director
  3. maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or above,
  4. may not drop a course.

Freshman Application Procedure
A freshman applicant to Dana must submit the following materials to the Admissions Office in order to be considered for admission:

  • a completed application form,
  • an official high school transcript – which must include the student’s cumulative grade point average – or GED certification,
  • official results of either the ACT or SAT I.

Home Schooled Application Procedure
Applications from home-schooled students are welcome. Applicants will be required to meet the following minimum academic requirements to be considered for admission:

  • a completed application form,
  • an ACT composite of 18 or SAT combined score of 860,
  • signed parental transcript,
  • one of the following documents:
    1. transcript from high school or college where courses were taken for credit,
    2. GED (with an average score of 500), or
    3. portfolio of representative work.
