Dana College recognizes students who have distinguished themselves
in academic achievements by awarding various honors and awards.
Alpha Chi:
To be eligible for consideration as a member of the Nebraska Beta chapter (the
Dana College chapter) of Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society,
students must be juniors or seniors, rank in the top ten percent of their
class, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.80 including at
least one academic year at Dana, and be elected by the faculty.

Alpha Mu Gamma:
Honor students in foreign language are recommended by the foreign language
faculty.

Dean’s List:
The Dean’s List is prepared and published at the close of each semester.
In order to be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must: be enrolled
as a full-time student, have a minimum grade point average of 3.7 for the semester,
and have no grade below a C.

Graduation with Honors:
Students who have completed a minimum of 60 credits at Dana and distinguished
themselves in their course work by maintaining high grade point averages
shall receive their degree cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude.
The minimum grade point averages for these honors are 3.70, 3.80 and 3.90,
respectively.

Dana College Award
for Excellence in Leadership
Annually given to one or two members of the graduating class, this award recognizes
individual accomplishments in the area of leadership. This is a student who
is highly respected by his or her peers and the faculty, staff, and administration
of Dana College. It is presented to a student who has made positive leadership
contributions in areas such as academics, activities, community service, athletics,
or the performing arts.

“Spirit of Dana” Award
This award recognizes a member(s) of the senior class who best exemplifies
the ideals of Dana College in the area of character. This is a highly respected
individual on campus who regularly acts with integrity and exhibits values
consistent with Dana’s commitment to fostering a community where the
dignity of every person is respected. Their character is recognized in the
classroom, in extra-curricular activities, and in their interactions with
the Dana Community.

Dana College Award for
Excellence in Service
Annually given to one or two members of the graduating class, this award recognizes
individual accomplishments in the area of service to others. Dana seeks to
help students “actively participate in and help to shape society.” This
is a stated goal of the college. The Excellence in Service award is presented
to a student who best exemplifies this goal through a commitment and dedication
to serve, assist, and care for others.

Dana College Community
Enrichment Award
This award recognizes an outstanding member(s) of the senior class who has
served as an advocate for celebrating inclusiveness and respect for all at
Dana College. The recipient of this award has performed well academically and
has been active in the college community through leadership, service, and citizenship.
Their presence, as an active member of the student body, has benefited the
entire college community and assisted Dana in its commitment to be an increasingly
diverse living and learning environment.

Dana College Award
for Service in Religious Life
This award was established to recognize a member(s) of the graduating class
who has excelled at serving the college in the area of religious life. The
recipient of this award is recognized as a person of strong Christian faith
and has been an active participant in the programs and activities aimed to
foster spiritual growth on the Dana College campus. It is presented to a student
who best exemplifies service through a commitment to their faith.

A variety of awards are presented at the annual Honors recognition celebration
to students who have distinguished themselves in particular fields of study.

Sower Awards:
The Langland Award is presented annually in honor of Joseph Langland, American
poet and professor of English, for the best examples of student poetry and
prose. The Hal Evans Cole Award is a memorial award presented annually for
the outstanding student contribution in the Arts. The Kaj Munk Award is presented
for the best example of student translation.
