An Integrated Studies major allows a student to plan a specific
program in an area of study not formally developed by the College
as a major. Such majors shall be inter-disciplinary with a particular
focus on a specific theme.
Integrated Studies Major
(48 credits)
Students who wish an Integrated Studies major must consult with the Provost,
have at least 30 credits, and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. In consultation
with the Provost, the student will select a faculty advisor who will assist
the student in articulating a theme for the major, writing a proposed program
of study, selecting two additional faculty members to constitute an advisory
committee, and will serve as faculty coordinator of the accepted proposal.
This major must include 15 credits of upper division courses (300/400),
24 credits in one academic division with not less than 12 credits
from one discipline within that division, and 12 credits from each
of two other academic divisions. Students are encouraged to include
an internship in their primary area of study.
It is the student’s responsibility to specify why each area
has been selected and demonstrate how each course applies to the
theme. The student’s advisory committee will review the proposed
course of study, and approve, reject, or suggest modifications in
the proposal. The program must be approved by the advisory committee
to be an official major.
The approved program shall be filed with the Provost and the Registrar
prior to the beginning of the student’s senior year.
