program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the Army Reserves
Officers’ Training program at Creighton University.
No major or minor offered.
Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training
Corps
The Air Force ROTC program is prepared and presented by the aerospace studies
department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the United States Air
Force.
The Department of Aerospace Studies is a regular instructional program
of UNO and functions according to the rules and policies of the University
and those of the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force ROTC program is open
to both men and women and is designed to develop the skills and attitudes
vital to the professional Air Force officer. Upon successful completion
of the Air Force ROTC program and graduation from Dana College, cadets
are commissioned second lieutenants, U.S. Air Force. Instruction
includes a two-year basic course (General Military Course-GMC) and
a two-year advanced course (Professional Officer Course-POC).
Aerospace Studies are presented to Air Force ROTC students as professional
courses designed to enrich their overall academic experience.
All students are provided leadership experience through participation
in an accompanying leadership laboratory. The GMC courses also include
voluntary trips to various Air Force installations throughout the
United States. Students enrolled in GMC courses are not in the military
service and assume no military obligation. Students with prior military
service or high school ROTC experience may receive credit for portions
of the GMC program.
The POC curriculum emphasizes communication skills, civil-military
relations, leadership, human relations, problem solving and decision
making. Courses are open to students who have either completed the
GMC program or attended a six-week summer field training course held
at an Air Force base in lieu of the GMC program.
For complete information on the Air Force ROTC program, contact
the Department of Aerospace Studies at (402) 554-2318. Scholarships
may be available.

Army Reserve Officers’ Training
Corps
Through a cross-enrollment agreement with Creighton University’s Department
of Military Science, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) instruction is provided.
This agreement helps to ensure that men and women commissioned in the Army
Officer Corps are educated in a broad spectrum of American institutions of
higher learning.
This program is an elective two-year or four-year program taken
as any other elective course. The four-year program includes a basic
course taken during the freshman and sophomore years and an advanced
course taken during the junior and senior years. There is no service
obligation connected with enrollment in the basic course. The two-year
program requires attendance at an expenses-paid summer leadership
camp prior to enrollment in the advanced course. Veterans, Army Reservists
and National Guardsmen are eligible for placement directly into the
advanced course.
The ROTC program provides training designed to qualify students
for civilian careers in executive management positions or as junior
officers in the U.S. Army. Hence, the student may earn a commission
while earning an academic degree in a discipline of his or her choice.
The curriculum is interdisciplinary and encourages reflective thinking,
assessment, goal setting and problem solving. Leadership training
is the core of the Military Science Program and is required each
semester. There are opportunities for optional adventure training.
Although military science courses may be taken by any student, only
those students formally enrolling in and successfully completing
the advanced course are eligible to receive a commission. If selected
for and enrolled in the advanced course, the student must agree to
complete the remaining two years of ROTC and to accept a commission,
if offered, upon completion of the course. Graduates can take advantage
of several service options within the Active Army and the Reserve
Components after they are commissioned.
A two-year program is available for students at Dana. These students
must attend a six-week Basic Camp prior to entering the advanced
course. This Basic Camp can be completed prior to the junior year
or during the summer between the junior and senior year. All other
portions of the program will remain the same.

Army Reserve/Army
National Guard Simultaneous Membership Program
This program allows qualified students (those veterans or students who have
completed basic training with a Reserve or National Guard unit or who have
completed three years of high school ROTC) to enter directly into the advanced

apply for active duty or reserve forces duty upon graduation.
