Pre-Professional Studies
Students wishing to prepare for advanced degrees and/or professional studies
after attending Dana may work with their academic advisor to tailor their
academic programs to include courses related to their area of interest. Students
are urged to consult with the particular professional program at the university
of their choice to receive a list of required and suggested prerequisites
so that appropriate courses can be selected.
While most advanced degrees and professional programs will consider
students from a variety of majors, students who are interested in
pursuing medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy,
physical therapy, veterinary medicine, dentistry, chiropractic and
other medically-related degrees typically major in biology or chemistry.
The Pre-Law Program
The Pre-Law Program at Dana College provides support and guidance for undergraduates
who wish to prepare for law school. To undertake the study and practice of
law, students must learn to think analytically and critically, to read widely
and intelligently, and to communicate clearly and effectively. Therefore,
the most useful, productive programs of pre-law study combine the necessary
depth of study in a major field with the breadth that comes from a solid
grounding in the liberal arts and sciences.
At Dana College, we have created a program combining courses in
a variety of departments with a major in one of four departments.
Experience suggests that this program of study will best provide
dedicated students with the skills necessary to do well on the LSATs
and in law school. It should also be noted, however, that law schools
will accept students with majors in almost all subjects. If none
of these subjects is of particular interest, please ask to consult
with a law school advisor for further suggestions.
Students majoring in Accounting, Business, Criminal Justice, English
or History must complete ALL of the following thirteen core courses
to fulfill successfully the Pre-Law Program. Students majoring in
other subjects may work out comparable programs with an advisor.
