Commencement Ceremonies | Second Bachelor's Degree and Other Post-baccalaureate Study

Every student who is a degree candidate must complete a graduation application and meet the following requirements in order to graduate.

Completion of:

  1. The general education program at Dana College as described in the Catalog.
  2. A major, as described in the Majors section of the Catalog. Credit towards its completion will be granted only for courses in which the student has earned a grade of C or higher. Credit towards completion of a minor will be granted only for courses in which the student has earned a grade of C- or higher.
  3. 128 semester credits with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00.
  4. A minimum of 40 credits at the upper division (300 or 400) level.
  5. Additional Requirements
    • Achievement of a satisfactory level of proficiency in the use of English. Every faculty member considers it part of his or her work to teach English. Any student whose work in written expression in any class is unsatisfactory is to be referred by the instructor to the English Department. If the student has satisfied the English composition requirement, and if in the judgment of the English Department the student is deficient in written communication skills, the deficiency will be noted on their unofficial academic record and remedial work will be prescribed.
    • At least the senior year in residence (normally, the final 32 credits completed).
    • Faculty recommendation for graduation.

Commencement Ceremonies
Attendance at Commencement is expected. To be eligible to participate in Commencement, students must be able to complete all degree requirements by the time of Commencement, or must be recommended for eligibility by their advisor and present reasonable evidence to the Registrar that they will be able to complete their graduation requirements before the beginning of the fall semester.

Second Bachelor’s Degree and Other Post-baccalaureate Study
Students who have completed a first bachelor’s degree at another institution may wish to complete a Dana College bachelor’s degree. Requirements are as follows:

  1. Completion of a major as described in the Dana College Catalog. Credit towards its completion will be granted only for courses in which the student has earned a grade of C- or higher. Typically, at least two-thirds of the major coursework is to be completed at Dana.
  2. Satisfaction of general education requirements from courses taken at Dana and/or other accredited institutions which can be transferred as described in the Transfer Students section of the Catalog.
  3. At least 32 credits earned at Dana, normally done in the final year of study.
  4. A minimum of 40 credits at the upper division (300 or 400 level).
  5. Faculty recommendation for graduation.
  6. All students will take a minimum of 42 credit hours outside of the first major.

Alumni of other institutions may apply for admission to Dana to complete individual courses, new majors, or teacher certification programs. These will be so indicated on the transcript. A second bachelor’s degree, however, will only be awarded if the previously listed requirements have been met.

Dana alumni in good standing may reenter at any point following their graduation. Completion of any additional majors will be indicated on the transcript.
