Rights Under FERPA Act
34 CFR §99.7:
- Right to and procedures for inspecting and reviewing student’s
education records.
- Right to and procedures for requesting amendment of student’s
education records student/parent believes to be inaccurate, misleading,
or in violation of student’s privacy rights.
- Right to consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information
contained in student’s education records.
- Right to file a complaint with ED for alleged school or educational
agency failure to comply with FERPA requirements.
- Right to the criteria used to determine what constitutes a school
official and a legitimate educational interest if school’s
or educational agency’s policy is to disclose personally
identifiable information from student’s education records
under §99.31 without prior consent.

As a student, you also have
the following responsibilities:
- Review all information about financial aid programs at Dana
College, complete all application materials accurately, and submit
them by the appropriate deadlines.
- Remain a full-time student if receiving Dana College grants,
scholarships, or employment.
- Know and comply with the rules governing the aid you receive,
including specific scholarship requirements.
- Read and understand all forms that are sent to you and keep
copies of forms that you sign.
- Budget your financial aid and other resources to meet your expenses
throughout the academic year.
- Use financial aid only for educational expenses related to your
attendance at Dana College.
- Make a payment on your student account for any amount not covered
by financial aid.
- Be aware that estimated financial aid will not be credited to
your Business Office balance.
- Be aware that the Business Office may not allow you to register
for classes if you owe a balance from a previous term.
- Notify the Financial Aid Office of any resources and assistance
you receive that is not included on your award letter.
- Notify the Financial Aid Office of changes in credit hours taken
and housing arrangements.
- Receive entrance counseling for first-year, first-time students
at Dana College prior to receiving the first disbursement of the
loan.
- Receive exit counseling if you borrowed a federal student loan
while attending Dana College prior to graduating or otherwise leaving
school.
- Repay the principal and interest on all student loans borrowed.
- Transfer students must request deferments from their lender(s).
