The Sport Management program consists of
an interdisciplinary curriculum based in the Business Department.
It combines
coursework in business
administration,
sport management and communication. By taking courses in these disciplines,
students have the opportunity to develop expertise
in business management with an orientation
toward the world of sport. Professional experience is gained within
each student’s
area of interest through the internship program. This quality blend
of theory and practical application provides the necessary
tools to pursue successful careers
in business and sport sectors.
SPM 101 Introduction to Sport Management 3 credits
This course is designed to provide students an overview of the structure
of the sport industry, issues facing sport organizations, and the
field of sport management. Students will be introduced to various
career opportunities within sport management.

SPM 218 Ethics in Sport 3 credits
An introduction to the philosophical theories, moral principles and
applications used to preserve what is good in sport. (Cross-listed

Designed to explore and apply the rules and regulations of sport
contests. Students will learn how to implement the rules and effectively

A study of test selection, construction, and statistical analysis
appropriate for assessment and evaluation in sport and fitness

SPM 322 Sport Facility Management 2 credits
A study of sport facility management, common problems encountered,
possible solutions and methods on how to properly address
those situations. Emphasis will be placed on facility staffing,
budgeting, maintenance,
preventative maintenance, replacement, building design, and

parts of society. Students will analyze this relationship
through a theoretical

Designed to explore the law and its implications in sport
management. Students will review case studies and other literature
in order to
better understand the legal system, Tort law, liability,

SPM 459 Sport Management Internship 1-4 credits
On-the-job learning with a cooperating employer in conjunction
with a faculty member. A minimum of 40 clock hours of supervised
work
is required for each hour of credit.
Prerequisites: Major in Sport Management and junior or senior
standing.
