Candidates for transfer admission (students who are attending college
either part-time or full-time following high school graduation) must
meet the following guideline to be considered for admission to Dana:
- a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or
better from all previous college work.
Also taken into consideration when determining if a transfer student
is granted full admission or is required to go before the Academic
Standards Committee for admission, is the student’s past performance
in college core courses and major courses, as well as the overall
difficulty of the courses previously taken. High school coursework
and standardized test scores may be considered in determining admission
status.
A transfer who is not granted full admission may petition the Academic
Standards Committee for committee admission. Additional information,
including a personal statement, may be required as part of this process.
More information on this process is available from the Admissions
Office.
Transfer Application
Procedure
A transfer applicant to Dana must submit the following materials to the Admissions
Office in order to be considered for admission:
- a completed application form,
- official transcripts from all colleges attended, even if prior
coursework is listed on the transcript of the last college attended,
- a high school transcript also should be sent to the Admissions
Office, unless the student has 24 or more semester hours of previous
college credit.
Transcripts that have been in the student’s possession will
not be considered official documents, unless they remain sealed.
Dana College reserves the right to request an official copy of the
student’s high school transcripts, even if they have the required
24 semester hours of previous college credit.

Transfer Credit
Generally, a course taken at a regionally accredited college or university,
in which the content and depth is similar to a course taught at Dana, will
be accepted for transfer.
- Dana will accept up to 64 semester hours of college credit for
students transferring from community colleges. Dana also will accept
up to 96 semester hours of college credit from four-year colleges,
or from a combination of community and four-year colleges, respectively.
Either way, transfer students must complete the final 32 semester
hours of the 128-semester hour degree requirement at Dana (a minimum
of 15 semester hours of this must be taken in the student’s
major field of study).
- Courses with grades below “C-” will not satisfy
general education or major requirements. Grades of “D” are
transferable within the first 64 semester hours if the transfer
student has an Associate of Arts and/or Associate of Science degree.
Grades for credit accepted in transfer are compiled separately
on the student’s Dana transcript. Upon graduation from Dana,
the student’s final transcript will reflect both the transfer
GPA and the Dana GPA, with a cumulative computation of the two
GPAs.
- An Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree will confer
junior status upon incoming transfer students. An Associate of
Applied Science degree may also confer junior status upon incoming
transfer students.
- Transfer students who have earned an Associate of Arts degree
or an Associate of Science degree from a college or university
with regional accreditation have fulfilled the General Education
Baseline Competencies requirements.
- A minimum of 60 semester hours at a four-year college beyond
the Associate of Arts degree is required to complete the bachelor’s
degree at Dana.
- Credit transfer is determined on an individual basis by the
Dana College Registrar. Transfer students will receive a transcript
evaluation upon their acceptance to Dana. Transfer credit evaluations
will not reflect courses in progress.
