The members of the Dana College Chorale — Dana's premier
vocal ensemble — love to sing. As one the region's most
esteemed musical groups, they get plenty of chances to do what
they love. From hours of rehearsals to concerts as close as Dana's
campus and as far away as Rebild, Denmark, the Chorale is in
high demand. (This summer they will spend two weeks touring Northern
Europe, including a performance at the largest U.S. Independence
Day celebration outsite of the United States.)
And although the Dana College Chorale has achieved a level of
excellence on par with groups from the largest universities,
there is one important difference: All Chorale members have active
lives, besides being in Chorale. As part of the overall
Dana mission, Director Richard Palmer believes performing in
the Chorale is an important part of a liberal arts education.
Which means Chorale members can love music and love
psychology (or economics or biology). Of the 35 Chorale members
who have declared a major, music education leads the list (with
6 majors), but it's followed closely by elementary education
(5 majors) and business administration (4 majors). The Chorale
also boasts English majors, art majors and a computer science
major, with 14 different academic majors represented in all.
Chorale members are also active in other campus groups, including
members of the men's soccer team, several Dana College Theater
and Concert Band members and a writer for the student newspaper.
