Musical favorite to be guest directed by Brandon D. Higdem
Dana
College Theater will present the hit musical “Grease,” at
7:30 p.m. April 30–May 4 in Lauritzen Theater, Madsen Fine
Arts Center on Dana’s campus in Blair, Neb. Tickets are
$5 and are available at the door before performances.
“
Grease” follows a group of romantically challenged, 1950s
teenagers through their senior year in high school. It includes
a great ensemble of characters, including the star-crossed sweathearts
Danny (Nathan Bates) and Sandy (Mara Bartlett); on-again, off-again
couple Rizzo (Molly Jackson) and Kenickie (Jeremy Bryan); “one-woman
USO” Marty (Emily Neve) and beauty-school dropout Frenchy
(Tabetha Holman).
“
We have been waiting for years to do ‘Grease,’” said
stage manager Tiffany Poole. “The actors have been
working really hard in and out of rehearsal in order to make
this happen.”
Dana College Theater welcomes Brandon
D. Higdem as guest director for “Grease.” Originally
from Bismarck, N.D., Higdem moved to Omaha five years ago
for a contract with the Nebraska
Theatre Caravan and the Omaha Community Playhouse. He has
just returned from a semester of post-graduate work with
The Actor’s
Studio of Drama in New York City. An actor and director,
Higdem’s
previous directorial efforts include “Clue: The Musical,” “Into
the Woods,” “State Fair,” “Assassins,” and “Das
Barbeque.”
Musical direction is by Dana’s own
Clare Cowing, campus accompanist. Cowing most recently served
as musical director
for the Dana College Theater’s last production, “The
Apple Tree.”
“
Clare Cowing is doing an amazing job with the music,” Poole
said. “She makes it all happen.”
In addition to
door sales, tickets also are available from the Dana College
Information Desk, located in the E.C. Hunt
Campus
Center, or by calling (402) 426-9000.
