Paul Schneider's Soundbite explores popular culture and politics

The Dana College Theatre will be the first to perform Professor Paul Schneider’s first full-length play, Soundbite, in Dana’s Lauritzen Theatre, Oct. 9-12. The performance is free and open to the public, but, because of mature content, children under 13 will not be admitted. Performance times are at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Schneider was inspired to write Soundbite after watching a segment of the popular cable talk show The O’Reilly Factor. The resulting play is a whirlwind of the lies, exploitation and hidden motivations that define the modern political world. The story explores politics in the newsroom, the classroom and the bedroom, leading the audience through the complicated and deceitful web of contemporary political life.

The cast includes talented veterans of the Dana College Theatre, including Mara Bartlett (Cozad, Neb.) as Jayne Grayfellow, a liberal entertainer, Jeremy Stoll (Mt. Vernon, Iowa) as conservative talk show host Dick O’Malley and Eric Grant-Leanna (Omaha, Neb.) as liberal college professor Dr. Lucas Bremer.

Schneider will also direct the play, a role he’s familiar with. Soundbite is his first full-length drama, but he has written and directed five shorter theatrical works for Dana’s annual Sights & Sounds of Christmas festival.
