BLAIR, NEB.—Dana
College Viking football defeated non-conference foe Waldorf College
33-14 Saturday in Forest City, Iowa. The Vikings
jumped out to a 10-7 first quarter lead and took advantage of Waldorf
turnovers to cruise to an easy win.
Dana’s tough O-line did not give up a sack. The Viking Fury
defense sacked the Warrior quarterback six times and forced six Waldorf
fumbles.
Viking quarterback Tom Lensch (David City, Neb.) completed 17 of
32 passes for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns. Matt Neesen (Omaha, Neb.)
ran in the Vikings fourth touchdown. Neesen had 75 yards of total
offense in the game.
Kicker Rick Lebeda (Omaha, Neb.) made 2 of 3 field goals and 3
of 3 extra points. Lebeda has not missed an extra point this season.
Wide receiver Javon Bell (Miami, Fla.) caught 9 passes for 95 yards.
Alex Hook (Omaha, Neb.) caught a 60-yard pass for a touchdown.
Lebeda caught a 47-yard pass for a touchdown. Bill Dragonetti (Moraine,
Wis.) caught the third touchdown pass. All three had only one reception
in the game.
Viking tackle leader Mike Buchanan (Omaha, Neb.) had ten total
tackles. Buchanan, Greg Wilmes (Creighton, Neb.), Kurt Ferguson
(Omaha, Neb.),
and John Synowicki (Omaha, Neb.) had a sack each. Ben Ryan (Omaha,
Neb.) recorded two sacks for the Vikings.
Wilmes, Chris Reinke (Omaha, Neb.), Ryan Hoden (Council Bluffs,
Iowa), and Ryan Ridder (Norfolk, Neb.) each forced a Waldorf fumble.
In
all, the Vikings had 17 tackles-for-a-loss of 68 yards. Reinke
also blocked a punt.
Dana football is now 5-3 overall, 4-3 in the Great Plains Athletic
Conference.
Dana plays GPAC rival Midland Lutheran Saturday in Fremont, Neb.
A traveling trophy celebrating this longstanding rivalry will be
awarded for the first time this year. The home team’s college
president will present the “President’s Cup” to
the winner immediately following the game. Kickoff is set for 1:30
p.m.
