Rick Lebeda (Omaha, Neb.) kicked a 51-yard field goal in the fourth
quarter of Saturday’s football game in Fremont, Neb., to put
Dana ahead of rival Midland Lutheran 13-12. However a touchdown late
in the fourth quarter gave Midland the lead and the win, 18-13.
Lebeda put the first points on the board for Dana with a 37-yard
field goal in the first half. Later in the second quarter, quarterback
Marcus Sladek (Omaha, Neb.) led a 13-play, 71-yard drive for a touchdown.
Dana held the lead 10-9 at the half. “We had the win within
reach and we let it slip away,” said Dana Head Coach Bill Danenhauer.
Pressure on the quarterback and dropped passes plagued the Vikings
throughout the day. Dana had only 153 yards passing in the game.
Sladek threw 15 completions on 39 attempts for 153 yards and one
touchdown. He also had 47 yards rushing.
Greg Hill (Omaha, Neb.) caught 4 passes for 45 yards and scored the
Vikings only touchdown. Javon Bell (Miami, Fla.) had 40 yards on
3 catches. Dan Irwin (Bellevue, Neb.) caught 2 passes for 42 yards.
On defense, Mike Buchanan (Omaha, Neb.) had 12 solo tackles and 7
assists. Chris Reinke (Omaha, Neb.) had 8 solo tackles. Clayton Timm
(Treynor, Iowa) sacked Midland’s QB for a loss of 4 yards.
Sean Pietrzyk (Salina, Kan.) and Clay Salberg (Gretna, Neb.) also
had a sack.
Dana’s defense forced 3 fumbles in the game.
The Vikings, now 5-4 overall, will host Northwestern College (Iowa)
Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Blair.
