Dana Struggles in Second Half, Loses to Red Raiders

The Northwestern defense had three sacks and pressured Viking quarterbacks all afternoon long while holding the Dana offense to only 162 total yards as the Red Raiders won 42-10.  The loss snaps Dana’s five game winning streak and drops the Vikings to 6-4 (5-4 GPAC).  The #7 Red Raiders are 9-1 (8-1 GPAC).

Dana went into halftime trailing only 14-10. Defensive back Brandon Terry (SO, Omaha, NE) sparked the Vikings’ first half performance by blocking a second quarter Northwestern punt and running it in for a touchdown.  Dana also got a 26 yard Rick Lebeda (SR, Omaha, NE) field goal to take a 10-7 lead.  Northwestern scored their second touchdown of the half with 0:58 seconds remaining to take a four point lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Dana struggled offensively recording only four first downs and turning the ball over two times on interceptions.  For the game the Vikings were only able to muster 15 rushing yards on 19 total carries.  Starting quarterback Marcus Sladek (SO, Omaha, NE) completed 14 of 24 passes for 121 yards before leaving the game late in the fourth quarter with an injury.  Wide receiver Albert Allen (FR, Omaha, NE) caught five passes for 75 yards including a 40 yard reception in the second quarter that set up the Lebeda field goal.  Dana senior wide receiver Javon Bell (Miami, FL) was injured on the second play of the game and only played three more plays on the afternoon.

Linebacker Mike Buchanan (SR, Omaha, NE) recorded 12.5 total tackles (11 solos tackles) for the Viking defense including one tackle for loss.  Defensive backs Chris Reinke (SR, Omaha, NE) and Ben Ryan (SR, Omaha, NE) recorded 7.5 and 7 total tackles respectively.  The Viking defense struggled to stop the Red Raiders dual-threat quarterback Craig Hector who had 80 yards rushing and 254 yards passing while accounting for four total touchdowns.

Dana will wrap up its season at home this Saturday against Morningside College (7-2, 7-2 GPAC).  The Senior Day game will start at 1:00 PM.
