Neesen Has Big
Day in Viking Win |
Matt Neesen (SR, Omaha, NE) rushed
for 180 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as Dana (5-3,
4-3 GPAC) built a 34-0 halftime lead on their way to a 51-14 home
victory over Waldorf (1-6). For the game, Neesen had 215 yards
rushing on 27 carries and four touchdowns. Neesen had touchdown
runs of 30, 8, 9, and 1 yard. Neesen’s longest run of the afternoon
was 74 yards.
Dana rolled up 355 yards of total
offense in the first half while holding Waldorf to 119. For the game,
the Vikings had 306 rushing yards and 573 total yards. Waldorf finished
with 188 total yards.
The Dana defense forced 4
Warrior turnovers. Dana linebacker Shaun O’Connell (SR, Omaha, NE) had
6.5 tackles including a sack and forced two fumbles. Linebacker Mike
Buchanan (SR, Omaha, NE) had seven tackles for Dana. Defensive back
Shawn Roll (JR, Gretna, NE) had an interception and broke up 3 passes.
Dana quarterback Marcus Sladek (SO,
Omaha, NE) completed 10 of 22 passes for 166 yards including a 26 yard
second quarter touchdown pass to Albert Allen (FR, Omaha, NE). Junior
wide receiver BJ Fields (JR, Omaha, NE) caught 3 passes for 76 yards for
the Vikings. Dana kicker Rick Lebeda (SR, Omaha, NE) made field goals
of 36, 48, and 26 yards.
Both Waldorf touchdowns came in the
third quarter. The Warriors blocked two Dana punts—one resulting in a
touchdown recovery in the end zone by Roger Blickenderfer, and the
second which was recovered at the 3 yard line resulted in a Kellen
Bucknell touchdown run.
Dana’s next contest is Saturday,
October 28, against rival Midland. Midland (1-7, 1-7 GPAC) is coming
off a 24-21 loss to Briar Cliff. “Throw out the records in this game
between two old rivals,” says Viking coach Bill Danenhauer. Game time
is 2:00 PM.
