The Dana College Health
Services office provides quality, individualized health care of
students. The mission of Health Services is to support
learning by enabling each student to achieve and maintain optimum
health and wellness.
Hours and Location, Phone Numbers
Health Services
is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the
nine-month school year on the first floor of
Mickelson Hall. The phone number is ext.
(402) 426-7320 (with answering machine).
What to do After Hours
There is a walk-in-clinic open from 9 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on
Sunday at the Blair
Clinic. A physicians
assistant
(P.A.) is available on a first come, first served basis. Appointments
with physicians can be made at the Blair Clinic. Phone number
for both is 426-4611.
Other options are Alegent health (426-5171)
and Dr. Ronald Anderson, internal Medicine Specialist (426-2210).
Each of
these offices also has
P.A.’s.
In Case of an Emergency
Call 9-911 for a rescue squad. If you have
a question about whether or not the person needs emergency services,
call the hospital switchboard
(426-2182)
and
ask for the E.R. For information on specific illnesses and injuries
needing
medical care, click on “ Emergency Assessment” in the
left sidebar of this page.
To
Contact the Campus Nurse at Home
Call 533-8912, leave a message and the nurse will return your
message the same day.
Costs
Over-the-counter medications, pregnancy tests, and condoms
are free. Immunizations such as the flu and meningitis vaccine
are given at
cost. Prescriptions
and Blair Clinic visits are at the expense of the student.
Physician
Coverage
Dana College pays Chauncey Wilkins, M.D. for consulting
services, but he does not come to campus for appointments. He is
located at the Blair
Clinic,
810
N. 22nd St.
Absences
It is the responsibility of the student to inform professors
of absences due to illness. Some professors request
a form from the
nurse to
verify a visit.
Allergy Shots
Because the college physician is not on campus for
emergency situations, the student should take the
serum to the
Blair Clinic and set up
a schedule. This
is for the student’s safety.
Health Insurance
It is imperative that each student have health insurance
before enrolling. Inquire at the Business Office
if an insurance policy
is needed.
Confidentiality
Compliance with the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act (HIPPAA) took effect
April 14, 2003.
It provides patients
with access
to their medical
records and control over how their personal
health information is used and disclosed.
The most important
part of the law is that students will not have their medical information
shared
without first
signing a written
authorization
for its
release.
Grievance Procedures
If you have a complaint or criticism, please
visit the Director of Health Services
to discuss it.
If you are
still not satisfied,
bring
the matter
to the Director
of Student Life.
