Lisa's Award
By Devin

As
we sat in the well lit classroom you could see still see the
exhaustion on the women’s face that was responsible for putting
together the Cultural Fair each year. I laughed because I
finally got a chance to get the interview I had been trying to
get all week. “I’m a busy woman” Lisa stated and I replied with,
I understand.
Lisa Schreiber
does more than coordinate the Cultural Fair though, this past
year she was given the prestigious Richardson Professorship
which allows professors to research proposals while giving them
the funding and time that they need to complete their
dissertation.
Lisa chose the subject of Holistic
medicines. She said, “I chose this because no one else was doing
research on it at the time.” And that she had “a problem that
regular medicine couldn’t help.”
Holistic medicines could be any form of
medicines that are used to heal people without the use of drugs.
For example visiting the chiropractor or attending yoga classes.
Some even believe laughter is a type of holistic medicine
Her proposal was a request for funding to
support an ethnographic study of communicative behavior between
holistic health care practitioners and their clients. She did
all of her work locally between the Blair and Omaha area.
Lisa was also the first female in the
Communication department’s history to be given this award. She
was also promoted to Associate Professor, and said she was very
grateful because anytime your efforts are recognized by your
peers it makes you feel good.”
Lisa also wanted to point out how doing
research helps, not only in her work but also as a teacher.” “it
helps me doing my classes”.
