Jan. 21, 2006

The Dana men’s basketball team lost a hard-fought game at Morningside College Saturday evening 135-133 in quadruple overtime. Dana led 40-35 at halftime and remained in the lead through nearly the entire second half. In the final 54 seconds, with the score in the Vikings’ favor 82-79, the Mustangs scored a lay-up then stole the ball and scored a three-pointer to tie the game at 82.

The Mustangs took that momentum into the first overtime. Viking Rob Cox (Hawley, Minn.) scored a 3-pointer in the final seconds to tie the game again at 91.

By the end of the second overtime, Morningside had the lead 100-98 with 11 seconds to go. Morningside fouled Dana’s Jason Isaacson (Council Bluffs, Iowa). Isaacson is arguably the best free-throw shooter Dana College has ever seen. With the pressure on, he sank two free throws to tie the score at 100 and send the game into a third overtime.

It was Isaacson again in the third overtime. He hit a three-pointer with three seconds left in the to tie the score at 116.

But time ran out on the Vikings in the fourth overtime. Morningside scored a lay-up with only 11 seconds left and Dana was unable to get another shot off. Morningside steals the win from Dana 135-133.

Isaacson set a new Dana College school record with 48 points in the game, breaking the record he set just a few weeks ago.
