The Dana College Menıs Basketball team traveled to the Perkins
Classic over the Christmas break to take on Black Hills State
University and South Dakota Tech. The Vikings came out on the wrong
end of the score against each school. Dana lost 77-59 to Black Hills
State and 87-85 to South Dakota Tech.
In the first game, Dana College was down by only four at half time,
but a strong second half by BHSU lifted them to the 18-point
victory.
Jason Issacson (SR, Council Bluffs, Iowa) led Dana offensively with
19 points. Mark Esser (SR, Woodbine, Iowa) chipped in six points and
pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Zeb Christiansen (SR, State
Center, Iowa), Robbie Cox (SR, Hawley, Minn.), Doug Huston (FR,
Olathe, Kan.) and Jared Kitzelman (JR, Fremont, Neb.) each added
five points apiece.
The second game pitted the Vikings against the South Dakota Tech
Hardrockers. Dana held a seven-point halftime lead, but could not
stop Techıs second half comeback. The Hardrockers hit two free
throws with 2.8 seconds left to go in the game for the win.
Dana had three players in double digits against Tech. Senior guard
Tyler Mohr (Ocheyedan, Iowa) hit four three-pointers in the game.
Mohr finished up with 16 points and four assists. Esser scored 12
points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds (three were
offensive). Isaacson scored a team-high
43 points on the night. Isaacson hit five three-pointers in the loss
and was 10 of 11 from the charity stripe.
The two losses drop the Vikings to 8-8 on the season. Dana returns
to conference play on Wednesday night against rival Midland Lutheran
in Fremont. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The next home game
for the hoopsters is Jan. 10 against Concordia University at 7:30
p.m.
