Vikings fall to Warriors at home
Blair, Nebraska ~
A return to the friendly confines
was not what the Dana College Men’s Basketball team found on
Tuesday night. Dana was handed a home set back, 79-66 by
Midland Lutheran.
Things did not start well for the Vikings as the Warriors
exploded to a 17-9 lead. Dana did not find the rims on their
home court very friendly. The Vikings saw several shots touch
all parts of the iron, but fall away. Dana whittled the lead to
four points with five minutes to go in the half on a three-point
shot by Jared Kitzelman (SR, Fremont, Neb.). That would
prove to be the only three the Vikings would hit in the half.
Dana shot a dismal 35-percent compared to 45-percent by
Midland. The Vikings trailed 35-25 going into the locker room
at half.
Dana’s shooting woes continued in the second half as Midland
extended its lead to as many as 18 points early in the half.
Dana could not overcome the double-digit deficit. The Vikings
drew within 12 points as Jon Person (SO, Olathe, Kan.)
hit a spinning lay up in the lane. The Vikings eventually fell,
79-66.
Trent Mumma (JR, Bennington, Neb.) led all Vikings with 12
points. Kitzelman followed with 10 points, including a
pair of threes. Person continued his solid play off the
bench with five points. Zeb Christiansen (SR, State
Center, Iowa) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Sean
Johnson (FR, Council Bluffs, Iowa) and Gabe Bross
(SO, Omaha, Neb.) led the team with three assists each.
The Vikings fall to 4-12 overall and 2-5 in Great Plains
Athletic Conference play. The Vikings hope to rebound on Friday
against Dakota Wesleyan. The Tigers are currently 13-2 and
rated number 12 in this week’s NAIA Division II poll. This will
be the fourth rated team the Vikings face this season. Tip off
is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.
