Vikings Fall to Red Raiders |
February 3, 2007
Orange City, Iowa ~
The men’s basketball team traveled to nationally rated
number nine Northwestern College on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings
fell to the Red Raiders 106-65.
Northwestern opened the game on
an11-3 run. Teddy Cox (SR, Hawley, MN) stopped the early run by
hitting three consecutive free throws. The Vikings had whittled the
lead down to four points midway through the first half when Zech
Genant (SO, Springfield, MO) drained a free throw. That would be as
close as Dana would come in the first half.
The second half did not get any
better for the Vikings. The Red Raiders hit their first five shots to
open the second half to stretch their lead to 58-43. Gabe Bross
(SO, Omaha, NE) hit a pair of free throws to draw Dana closer. The Red
Raiders extended their lead to as many as 30 points with 8:00 minutes
remaining. Jared Kitzelman (SR, Fremont, NE) hit a lay-up to
bring the lead under 30. The Northwestern reserves continued to score
on Dana’s reserves to bring the final score to 106-65.
Jared Kitzelman
and Gabe Bross were the only Vikings to be in
double digits. Kitzelman had a team high 11 points and two assists.
Bross added ten points and seven rebounds. Zach Genant had nine
points on the afternoon. Eric Maassen (SO, Hancock, IA) pulled
down three rebounds to go with his nine points.
The Vikings fall to 8-17 overall and
6-8 in conference. The Vikings will host Concordia University on
February 7 at 7:30pm.
