DANA COLLEGE PROFESSOR TAKES OVER AS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF OMAHA
CHORALE
Richard Palmer debuts in new
position of
Clarion Chamber Chorale, Oct. 20
Dana College Professor of Music Richard Palmer will make his debut
as artistic director of Omaha’s Clarion Chamber Chorale at
their Oct. 20 concert, opening the new season.
Palmer, also director of the acclaimed Dana College Chorale, will
take over for the recently retired Stan Schmidt, whom Palmer served
under as associate conductor.
The chorale will perform a new program, “Clearly Clarion,
For God and Country,” at 3 p.m., Oct. 20 at First United Methodist
Church, 7020 Cass St., Omaha. The concert will feature sacred and
patriotic works in tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks, including Randall Thompson’s “Testament of Freedom.”
“Thompson’s work was worthy of a global live broadcast
to all Allied Armed Forces in 1943,” Palmer said. “His
work connects all of us in this common struggle to remain a free
society.”
The 32-voice choir will also perform “The Battle Hymn of the
Republic” and several spirituals.
Tickets for the concert are $12 for adults, and $10 for students
and senior citizens. They may be purchased at the door or at www.clarionchamberchorale.org.
