The Music Core - 31 credits
Mus 31.211A Methods of Teaching Brass Instruments - 1 credit
Mus 31.212A Methods of Teaching Woodwind Instruments - 1 credit
Mus 31.213A Methods of Teaching String Instruments - 1 credit
Mus 31.214A Methods of Teaching  Percussion Instruments - 1 credit
Mus 31.313 A Methods of Teaching Music in Elementary Schools  - 3 credits
Mus 31.408A Methods of Teaching Vocal/Choral Music - 3 credits
Mus 31.409A Methods of Teaching  Instrumental Music - 3 credits

Applied music 11 credits (Voice or instrument depending on the student's major area, distributed as listed below.)

  • Freshman: 1 in fall and 1 in spring
  • Sophomore: 1 in fall and 2 in spring
  • Junior: 2 in fall and 2 in spring
  • Fourth year: 1 in fall and none in spring
  • Fifth year: none in fall (professional semester) and 1 in spring

Ensemble requirements 0-6 credits
Combined endorsement music education majors are required to be in the major ensemble of their primary applied area a minimum of eight semesters and are required to be in the major ensemble of their secondary applied area a minimum of four semesters.

Students seeking the combined endorsement must show proficiency in keyboard, voice and an orchestral instrument. These proficiencies must be completed by the end of the 6th semester of study.

Students are required to present a 30 minute recital in their Junior year.
