DANA TO OFFER ONE-HANDED PIANO WORKSHOP
Sessions presented by alumna
Iris Frey Doolittle,
pianist and stroke survivor
Dana College will sponsor a Piano Music for One Hand
workshop,
presented by Iris Frey Doolittle, at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 2, in Trinity
Chapel on the college’s campus in Blair, Neb. The workshop is free and
open to the public, but advance registration is recommended.
The workshop runs two hours and consists of two sessions:
one on tips and techniques for writing your own arrangements for
one hand, and one on literature for one hand. Music Teachers Supply
will have a display at the workshop including music from the workshop
and other pedagogical materials.
Iris Frey Doolittle graduated from Dana College in
1978 as a piano major. After suffering from a stroke at the age of
28, Frey Doolittle learned to play the piano using just her left
hand. She currently teaches piano in Madison, Neb., and performs
as the organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church and in the Columbus Jazz
Orchestra, as well as accompanying for the Madison Middle School
choirs.
“Iris is an inspiration to everbody who meets
her, and especially when you hear what beautiful music she can perform
with only the use of one hand,” said Dr. Myrvin Christopherson,
Dana College president. “We are very proud of her. Her love
of music is contagious.”
For more information and to register for the workshop,
contact Dr. Claire Bushong, assistant professor of music, at cbushong@acad2.dana.edu
