DANA COLLEGE CONCERT BAND TO GIVE SPECIAL JOSLYN MUSEUM CONCERT,
APRIL 13
Concert features the performance
of a
world premiere edition by Professor William Hall
The Dana Concert Band, under the direction of Assistant
Professor William Hall, will give a special concert
April 13 in the Witherspoon Concert Hall at the Joslyn Art Museum
(2200 Dodge, Omaha, Neb.). Admission is free, and a reception
will follow the concert.
The performance will feature the world premiere of
Hall’s critical/performing edition of Franz Krommer’s “Parthia
for Band.” The piece, originally written in 1825 and never
before published, was completed as part of Hall’s doctoral
dissertation. It is a three-movement concert work written by one
of the most important composers of the time. Krommer was the last
court chamber music composer for the Austrian Empire and held great
influence over his peers.
Also featured during the concert will be guest soloist
Michelle Hall on “Concerto for Clarinet No. 1 in F minor, Op.
73,” by Carl Maria von Weber. Other selections include “Noisy
Wheels of Joy” by Eric Whitacre, “The Black Horse Troop” by
John Philip Sousa, “Satiric Dances for a Comedy by Aristophanes,” by
Norman Dello Joio, “The Padstow Lifeboat,” by Malcolm
Arnold and “Of Sailors and Whales, Five Scenes from Melville,” by
W. Francis McBeth.
The concert will be the highlight of the Dana College
Concert Band’s season. Their final concert for this season
will be the Spring Concert, May 8, in the Laurtizen Theater, Madsen
Fine Arts Center, on Dana’s campus.
