Dana first baseman Sarah Sempek is the
NAIA Region III Softball Player-of-the-Week, GPAC Player-of-the-Week
and Dana's Athlete-of-the-Week. Sempek, a senior from Omaha,
Neb., posted a batting average of
.457
as the
Vikings played a stretch of 11 games on the West Coast
for Spring Break. Her slugging percentage was .771 as she went
16-35 with five doubles and two homeruns. She also totaled
eleven RBIs on the road trip which included games against
number one ranked California Baptist.
Rob Nielsen, a senior from Salt Lake
City, Utah, has been named Champion of Character for February/March.
He is majoring in communications.
Over the two months, Rob
has
gone
above
and
beyond in helping
out
with
many
different activities in the athletic department. During basketball
season, Rob stayed after two home basketball games to clean
up the bleachers in an effort to make sure they were clean
for the next day's events. He helped out in the concession
stand during the Boarder Brawl for five hours just days after
having
his knee scoped.
“
Rob is someone that the entire soccer team can count on to
help out, to give vocal support, to do the little things
that most players don’t even think about,” said
Head Soccer Coach Shad Beam. “He does so much for this
program and does it for the love of the game and his school.”
On Wednesday, the Campus Activities Board
will be sponsoring speaker Landon Lueck, who starred in MTV’s “Real
World: Philadelphia” and “Road Rules” reality
TV series. The event will begin at 9 p.m. in the Lauritzen
Theatre of the Madsen Fine Arts Center.
Landon will speak about how
alcohol has shaped his life both positively and negatively and how The Real
World has affected him and changed his behavior forever. "Blacking
out",
being an issue confronted on The Real World - Philadelphia with his roommates,
is a common concern for college students and Landon will discuss practicalities
of this condition. He will talk of his personal experiences dealing with
sexual assault on campus, the direct correlation with
alcohol and how simple measures
can be taken to avoid such situations. Following
the hour-long presentation, Landon will be answering
audience questions and then signing autographs.
"To the students who came to help recycle
at the Blair Recycling Center on March 10—A very big thank
you. We had one of our busiest days ever and without this help
for four hours, we wouldn't have made it!"
— Vaughn Christensen, on behalf of the "regular recyclers"
Carol Haussermann, Chair of the Physical Education Department

Vice President and for two terms as Secretary of this national
organization made up of Faculty Athletic Representatives from
each NAIA member institution. Faculty Athletic Representatives
