On April 18, the Dana College Music Department hosted the first annual Dana Vocal Festival and Adjudication. Forty-five entries from Dana, UNO, Omaha private studios, and several area high schools performed classical and/or musical theatre selections for six adjudicators. The adjudicators were area music professionals and college voice teachers. The singers were given numerical scores on a 25-point scale. Singers with the first and second highest averages in each division and grade level received monetary awards. The adjudicators also had the option of designating certificate awards of High Distinction or Honorable Mention. The Dana College singers receiving awards are:

First Place: Luther Simon (Classical); Sara Andrews (Musical Theatre);Tommy Brandon (Classical); Jenna Gray (Musical Theatre)

Second Place: Molly Polk (Classical); Paige Vaughan (Classical); Paige Vaughan (Musical Theatre); Luther Simon (Musical Theatre); Joy Augustine (Classical); Tommy Brandon (Musical Theatre)

High Distinction (awarded by at least one judge): Sara Andrews, Joy Augustine, Jenna Gray, Stephanie Smith, Maggie Patterson, Brooke Fencl

Honorable Mention (awarded by at least one judge): PaigeVaughan, Julie Christensen, Natalie Hearn, Luther Simon, Brooke Fencl, Sara Andrews, Tommy Brandon, Maggie Patterson

The event was sponsored by MENC and funding was provided by Student Senate. Dr. Peggy Holloway organized the event and served as an adjudicator. Thanks to Dr. Richard Palmer for serving as an adjudicator and assisting with scoring, to Dr. Claire Bushong for handling registration, Clare Cowing for serving as piano accompanist to Dana singers and several guest singers, and to Paige Vaughan and Nick Albrecht for managing the room monitors.


Rodney Brown will present his Morton Scholars Honor's Thesis on Thursday, May 3, in The Forum at 3 p.m. His presentation is titled: “ Institution and Synod: The Development of Extramural Athletics At Dana College and Trinity Seminary”


MUSIC AND MORE ! participated in worship at Bethlehem Lutheran in Red Oak, IA on Sunday, April 29. Laurice Hansen, Brooke Fencl, Jennifer Oerman, Carla Clark, Chris Lunbeck, Kendra Johnson and Clare Cowing presented musical selections and a children's sermon.


Mark your calendars for a Faculty and Staff Town Meeting Thursday, May 3, to update staff and faculty on specific measures to implement the strategic plan during this academic year. You may choose to attend 8:30-9:15 or 2:30-3:15 in the Blue and Gold Room in the Campus Center.

Come and enjoy refreshments and the camaraderie of other staff and faculty.

To be accepted into the society, the student has to have a 3.65 g.p.a., and a 4.0 for two consecutive semesters in the target language.

Family, friends, faculty and staff are welcome to the ceremony. Refreshments will be served.


Tina Blair, current campus visit coordinator for the Admissions Office, has been hired as an Admissions Counselor.

Ross Jensen has chosen to leave his position at Dana as admissions counselor/assistant football coach to pursue other career opportunities as a financial advisor with the investment firm Edward Jones. His last day will be May 4.
