News from the Social Work Department...

Social Work senior Erin Sanders has been accepted into the Jane Addams Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Social Work seniors Jennifer Bakker, Amanda Hershey, and Kim Joedeman have been accepted into the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. They will receive advanced standing status toward their Master of Social Work degrees.

Social Work major Marcos Martinez has been chosen in a statewide election as next year’s BSW representative to the Board of the National Association of Social Workers in Nebraska.

Social Work major Brooke McCabe will serve as Dana College’s Student Ambassador to the National Association of Social Workers in Nebraska for 2007-2008.


Led by an impressive 3.85 GPA by junior Webster Farris, the Dana College Vikings wrestling team came in as the top team in the NWCA/NAIA All-Academic team tally.

Farris, a biology major, was one of five Dana wrestlers to make the All-Academic team, while the overall program at Dana ranked #1 with a 3.34 team GPA, finishing well ahead of second-place Campbellsville University, which came in with an overall 3.176.


Dana College is pleased to announce the appointment of four-time NAIA All-American wrestler Beau Vest as head wrestling coach for the Dana Vikings.

Vest has served as head wrestling coach at Topeka High School in Topeka, Kan., for the past six years where he coached 11 state medalists, three state finalists and two state champions. He also has been a member of the Team Kansas Cadet Freestyle/Greco National Coaching staff.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Missouri Valley College in mathematics and secondary education in 2001 where he was a four-time NAIA Wrestling All-American, three-time National Finalist and 1996 National Champion at 118 pounds. He also attended Oklahoma State University.

He helped lead NAIA wrestling powerhouse Missouri Valley College to two national team titles and three runner-up finishes.

Vest replaces Richard Fergola who has been hired as head wrestling coach at North Iowa Area Community College.

Dr. John Lyden, professor of religion, will be appearing in the documentary "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed" on the History Channel on May 28. Broadcast time is 8 p.m. central time, to be shown again at midnight May 29 and then again at 6 p.m. May 29. It is a two-hour special.


Beginning May 21 through August 10, administrative offices at Dana College will shift to summer hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Fridays.


This will be the last weekly Campus Bulletin for the 2006-07 school year. It will be produced monthly in mid-June and mid-July and will resume weekly publication in mid-August.
