Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804), the first
U.S. Secretary of the Treasury at age 32, is the focus of a
groundbreaking new traveling exhibition opening at the C.A.
Dana-LIFE Library on the Dana College campus, Aug. 23-Oct.
5.
“
Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America” tells
the story of Hamilton’s astonishing rise in five short
years from an orphaned, 15-year-old West Indies immigrant to
George Washington’s war time aide, and later, at age
32, Washington’s Secretary of the Treasury. Hamilton
was a complex and controversial figure—a Revolutionary
War patriot and soldier, financial and legal genius, and an
ardent opponent of slavery. He was the chief architect of many
of the financial, political and legal institutions so familiar
to Americans today.
The public is invited to attend a special dinner celebrating
the exhibit on Friday, September 21. Beginning at 5 p.m. in
The Forum, the event will include "A Visit with Alexander Hamilton"
by impersonator Dr. Don Hickey and a presentation by Dr. Mark
Scherer, associate professor of history at the University of
Nebraska-Omaha. Reservations are necessary and can be made
by clicking
here or contacting Carrie Reed, 426-7385, by September
14.
The next Dana After Hours will be September 18 at the LiT
Lounge, 180th & Pacific in Omaha. For more information about
the event or to sign up, please go to
