A group of 30 students and two instructors from the Vejle Handelsskole in Denmark will be staying on campus for a mini-course on "U.S. Business and Culture," from Saturday, September 29 through Monday,
October 8. As in past years, our guests will reside on campus, dine in the campus cafeteria and participate in academic and co-curricular programs.

Visits to area businesses, such as Kelly Ryan Manufacturing in Blair, attractions in Omaha as well as the Danish Immigrant Museum in Elkhorn, Iowa, are included in the students’ program.

Dr. Milt Heinrich, Professor of Art, at Dana College recently completed a commissioned wall relief for new executive offices of the Omaha World-Herald newspaper. The 7'X12' mixed media wall relief entitled "Free Press, Free People" is a multifaceted chronicle of this statewide newspaper.

The title of the work comes from the logo of the paper itself and speaks of the serious responsibility and privilege of our first amendment rights. The slogan emblazoned on the mural is further represented by "artifact" newspaper articles printed on stainless steel in the center of the mural. The articles include the 9/11 incidents and a report of a case in which the World Herald itself won a US Supreme court decision concerning a freedom of speech issue.

Other photos on steel chronicle the history and current state of the World
Herald offices, their reporting staff, their printing operation and their
method of distribution.

Jan Potter, professor of social work and sociology, presented an in-service training session for the Omaha Child Saving Institute and community professionals on September 6. Entitled “Ethics in Social Work,” the presentation explored challenging ethical issues in social work practice and their relationship to the National Association of Social Work Code of Ethics as well as state regulations.

Every February, a group of medical personnel travel to Nicaragua to run a clinic. Thousands come to take advantage of their services, however the need is often times too overwhelming to meet. How can YOU help?
By bringing in Prescription bottles…those little plastic, amber-colored things that you usually throw away. (Please remove the labels before donating them.) Help us collect pill bottles to send to Nicaragua! Collection boxes located at: Student Center, Library, Durham Center, Cooperman Atrium, and Science Hall. Effort sponsored by the Dana Business Club.

Staff Council is sponsoring a coat drive to benefit individuals who are less fortunate. Gently used coats, sweaters, hats, gloves, etc., can be brought to the Financial Aid office between now and Nov. 1. All sizes are welcomed, from infant through adult. The items will be donated to the Goldenrod Hills Community Action, where each year they open their doors to anyone in the community who is in need, at no cost to the recipient.

You are invited to hear Dana College organ student Shane Krepp in performance at the Orpheum Theater, 409 South 16th St., Omaha on Sunday, October 28 at 3 p.m. This is a presentation of the River City Theatre Organ Society, and Shane will be the first of several members of the organization to perform on the program.

The program is free, although RCTOS asks that you bring a donation of canned food or a monetary gift for the Omaha food bank
