Music faculty members presented a faculty showcase recital on September 14 at the Music Department Wednesday Seminar in Trinity Chapel.

Dr.Claire Bushong performed a Chopin piano etude, Dr. Peggy Holloway sang four selections, Dr. Richard Palmer performed a "Lied" by Brahms, and Clare Cowing performed an organ arrangement of "I Love to Tell a Story."

Dr. Peggy Holloway performed on a collaborative recital entitled "Contemporary American Music" at the annual conference of the College
Music Society on September 16 in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Holloway's performance, "Women's Poetry from the Plains," featured a song cycle which had been composed for her by UNL Composer-in-Residence Randall Snyder. The texts were by Nebraska poet Marjorie Saiser. The performance closed with "The Stillness Under Stars" from a group of songs by Darleen Mitchell of UNK based on texts drawn from Kathleen Norris's book "Dakota." All of the selections focused on the relationships of the authors with the land and elements of nature that impact life on the Great Plains.

In conjunction with the Staley Lecture Series, Dana College will host Dr. Paul Westermeyer in a lecture titled "Implications of a Danish Church Bell" on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in Trinity Chapels. The title of the lecture is taken from a quotation used by theologian Gordon Lathrop in his writing, and the presentation will focus on the place of congregational and choral singing in the church. Both congregational and choral singing will be part of the presentation, and a new concertato by Omaha composer and organist David Schack will be premiered.

A volunteer choir will be a part of this service. If you are interested in participating, the group will meet from 5-6:30 p.m. to practice their two songs just before the service begins. For more information, contact Dr. Richard Palmer, x7310.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recently announced the Top Ten All-Academic Teams, based on cumulative grade-point averages submitted by NFCA member head coaches for the 2005-2006 academic year.

The Dana College softball team ranked third in the NAIA with a 3.632 team grade point average.

“ This is a great honor for the team and institute,” said Marcy Roff, head coach. “It takes a team effort for this kind of success. The girls work very hard on the academic portion of their college experience, but it also takes the faculty and staff members to help achieve a national honor like this."

A Celebration of Life for Frank Hengeveld ( September 4, 1916 - May 7, 2006 ) will be held at the Dana College Trinity Chapel on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 2 p.m.
