Campus Pastor — What Do Dana Students Want? Come and
listen, speak and ask your questions. This Thursday, Kristen
Glass, Director of Young Adult Ministries for the ELCA, will
be on campus to speak about "
Why Service and Vocation are Important at a Lutheran/Christian
College."
You may participate in her presentations at 12 noon in the
Blue and Gold Room of the Dining Hall, at 2 p.m. in Trinity
Chapel
or at 2:30 p.m. in the Dragon's Head. The entire campus community
is welcome. Refreshments will be served at the 2:30 meeting.
Wednesday, November 28, at 3:00 in Trinity Chapel, the Dana
Department
of Music will present the ever popular "non-major" music
recital. This
is always a special performance. It is often the only opportunity
for
students who take applied lessons but are not music majors
to perform
for an audience. Please come and hear some wonderful musicians.
November 15 - 17, a large group of Dana Students attended the
annual
MENC/NMEA conference for music educators in Lincoln. The
trip was sponsored by Dana's Chapter of CMENC and was funded
by Student
Senate. The students who travelled to Lincoln are: Paige
Vaughan, Natalie Hearn, Megan Reppert, Luther Simon, Molly
Polk, Joy
Augustine, Sara Andrews, Samone Hendricks, Kristina Kurr,
Kirk Schjodt, David Manley, Jenna
Gray,Carly Beckman, Becky Winger, Ryan Herman, Ronnie Kellogg,
and Lindsay Van Horn. A highlight of the Collegiate day on
November
15 was the Showcase Recital which features a performance
by one musician from each
of the participating colleges. Joy Augustine, who was selected
through a
competitive audition in September, represented Dana College
by singing
an opera aria, accompanied by Clare Cowing.
Dr. Peggy Holloway,
who is the chapter advisor for Dana, served as a
session host for the collegiate choral workshop on Thursday
afternoon.
On Friday evening, Bruce Bartels was inducted into the
NMEA Hall of
Fame.
John Lyden attended the Annual Meeting
of the American Academy of Religion, Nov. 17-20, 2007, in San
Diego, California. He participated in a panel entitled, “Theology
and Film Reconsidered: Re-Framing the Discipline.” Dr.
Lyden is also co-chair of the Religion, Film, and Visual Culture
Group of the American Academy of Religion.
Carol King was chosen by the Omaha Chapter
of the American Society of Women accountants as the
recipient
of the
Lady
Vestey Woman of Achievement Award for 2007. It was presented
Nov. 17 at their annual Public Relations Dinner. The award
reads: "In recognition of her long term commitment to women
in the profession. The
award is given in recognition of Carol
King’s contributions to the positive regard accorded
to women in the fields of accounting, finance and banking in
the States of Nebraska and Iowa. Ms. King is honored for her
achievements and contributions to the accounting and finance
industry, her service to the community, and her commitment
ot the mission of ASWA."
Diane Nickeson-Ray LCSW, CMSW and Pamela
Talbot, R.N. attended a work shop presented by the UNMC Center
for Continuing Education
in Omaha on November 16 entitled, “Challenges and Innovations
in Mental Health for the College Student”.
The symposium director was James Sorrell, MD. This is the
first time Nebraska has joined all professionals who work
with college
students together for a workshop. There are more plans for
future workshops like these due to the higher demand for
mental health services and the challenges facing college
students.
Make plans to bring your family to campus
this Sunday for the Sights and Sounds of Christmas.

You are invited to the holiday Chamber
After Hours at Washington County Bank (1523 Washington).
The event is Friday, Dec. 14, from 5-7 pm. No RSVP required.
Every February, a group of medical personnel
travel to Nicaragua to run a clinic. Thousands come to take
advantage of their services, however the need is often times
too overwhelming to meet. How can YOU help?
By bringing in Prescription bottles…those little plastic,
amber-colored things that you usually throw away. (Please
remove the labels before donating them.) Help us collect
pill bottles
to send to Nicaragua! Collection boxes located at: Student
Center, Library, Durham Center, Cooperman Atrium, and Science
Hall. Effort sponsored by the Dana Business Club.
Dana students may attend all our MasterWorks and Chamber concerts
at the Omaha Symphony for $10 cash, a student ID, and a completed
voucher the day of the show. For more information, click
