Flutist Katie Foote played a medley of contemporary Christian songs for the Blair Area Community Prayer Breakfast last Wednesday. Katie is involved in the Woodwind Ensemble and MUSIC and MORE!


A requirement of living in the new suite-style housing is completing community service projects. Following are the projects completed by students living in the apartments this fall:

Set-up for Country Bible Church Dinner
Doug, Jon, Eric, and Gabe set-up, served, and took down for a small group leaders’ of the church dinner. Thye are very involved at Country Bible Church and thought this would be a way for them to give back.

Shepherd's Flock Day-Care
Kacie, Heather, Karla, and Jenny volunteered at Shepherd’s Flock Day Care in Blair. They offered their time to give a break to those who were working and to play with the kids.

Borup Coliseum Clean-up
Michelle, Allie, Brittany, and Lindsey aided our own custodians in Gardner-Hawks by mopping and cleaning the Borup and Gardner-Hawks gymnasium on Sunday afternoons.

Carter House Social Activities
Jodie, Felicia, Jill, and Josie offered different kinds of social interactions for the residents of the Carter House on Sunday nights for 4 weeks.

River Wilds Golf Course Clean-up
Christa, Maggie, Kate, and Apryl spent four hours on October 10th and October 17th volunteering at River Wilds Golf Course. The helped clean the facilities, golf carts, and grounds.

Gretna Nursing Home Bingo
Jessica, Courtney, Hayley, and Tessa volunteered at the Gretna Nursing home. The participated in social hour activities like bingo and other games.

Special Olympics
Rachel, Katy, Tara, and Jess helped with the Special Olympics.

Dana Concessions
Joy, Kendra, Jenna, and Sam answered the call for help in the concession stand during busy weekends.

YMCA Fright Night
Tabitha, Kathryn, Stephanie, and Devi volunteered at the Blair YMCA on October 27th. That night they participated in the “Fright Night” festivities for the community’s youth.

Serve Meal at Siena Francis House
Michelle, Laurice, Jennifer, and Danielle did their community service at the Siena Francis House. The volunteered their time to serve a meal to the residents and socialize with them.

Easter Seals Respite
Jackie, Aimee, Melena, and Dawn spent November 4th aiding the Easter Seals. That day they played, talked, and made crafts with mentally and physically handicapped individuals of all ages.

Ronald McDonald Clay Shoot
Wade, Brett, Dan, and Tony volunteered for the Ronald McDonald house. They spent an afternoon helping with a clay shooting contest whose proceeds benefited the Ronald McDonald house.


A big thanks you from the Campus Activities Board to all who donated to the recent Nebraska Wesleyan fire relief fundraiser. Gift cards totaling $250.00 were mailed to the university to help replace items that the students of Phi Kappa Tau lost in the fire.


John Lyden and Andrea Ng’weshemi attended the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., Nov. 18-21. Dr. Lyden co-chairs the group on Religion, Film, and Visual Culture. The conference is the largest annual international meeting of religion scholars, attracting about 11,000 participants from around the world, and dealing with every area of the study of religion.


You are welcome to attend the Chamber After Hours holiday event on Friday, Dec. 8, from 5-7 pm at Washington County Bank, 1523 Washington Street. No need to RSVP – just stop by the bank and enjoy.

The Chamber will host another holiday event on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 7:15-8:15 am, at the Chamber office. There is no formal program; Dana and Blair students will perform holiday musical selections. Please come and enjoy the music and treats and consider bringing with you a non-perishable food item for the Food Pantry or an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.


Dr. Paul Schneider was nominated by the Omaha Entertainment Awards for Best Acting Performance by a Visiting Actor for performing Mr. Bennet in "Pride and Prejudice" at Brigit Saint Brigit.

Other nominees with Dana ties include Schneider's wife and frequent Dana theater performer Connie Lee who was nominated for Best Local Actress in a Leading Role (Play) for her role in "The Graduate" at the Omaha Community Playhouse; 2006 alumnus Eric Grant-Leanna who was nominated for Best Local Actor in a Supporting Role (Play) for "A View From A Bridge"
at Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre; and frequent Dana theater director Brandon Higdem for Best Local Actor in Supporting Role (Musical) for his performance in "Ragtime" at the Omaha Community Playhouse.

Award winners will be announced at a ceremony Jan. 4 at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
