Performance
is part of the group's 2003-04 World Tour
Dana College is proud
to announce that the National Danish Performance Team will give
a special
performance for the public at 7:30 p.m. on
Feb. 26 in Dana’s Gardner-Hawks Center in Blair, Neb. Tickets
are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Reservations are encouraged
and can be made by calling the Dana College Relations Office at
402 426-7216.
The team consists of Denmark’s finest gymnasts
selected from the Danish Gymnastics & Sports Associations,
an organization that boasts membership from more than one-fifth
of Denmark’s population.
The Performance Team was formed in 1993 to promote an awarness
of Danish gymnastics traditions abroad, through spectacular performances
of gymnastics,
rhythmical sequences, dance and advanced tumbling. Dana College
is just one stop on the team’s 2003-04 World Tour, which
visits countries such as South Africa, Australia, Japan, Germany
and France.
The troupe of 28 men and women has drawn hundreds of thousands
of spectators to their family-friendly performances.
“
If you want a treat, don’t miss this outstanding performance,” said
Dr. Myrvin Christopherson, Dana College president. “The National
Danish Performance Team combines precision gymanstic and dance
performance with light comedy, uplifting musical accompaniment
and brilliant
costuming.”
This is not the first time the team has performed
in Nebraska. The group’s “ancestor” was one of
the first events held in Dana’s Borup Coliseum, completed
in the early 1960s. The last tour also visited Dana in 1997. The
February appearance will be the
first major non-athletic event in Dana’s new faciltiy, the
Gardner-Hawks Center.
The program consists of two hour-long halves,
with a short intermission. The audience will see a dazzling display
of athletic and artistic
ability, highlighting the best qualities of a non-competitive sport.
Doors
open at 6:30 p.m. Concessions, parking and a shuttle service will
be available. More information and directions to Dana’s
campus can be found at its web site, www.dana.edu. More information
about the Performance Team is available on its web site, www.dgi.dk/ndpt.
