Dr.
Tom Christenson to be guest speaker
Dr. Tom Christenson, professor
of philosophy at Capital University, will be the special guest
speaker during Dana’s Opening Convocation
for the Spring Semester, 9 a.m., Feb. 1, in the Lauritzen Theater
of the Madsen Fine Arts Center.
Christenson received his bachelor
of arts from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and his master
of arts and doctoral degree from
Yale
University. He is author of the recently published book, The Gift
and Task of Lutheran Higher Education, and is the founder editor
of the
journal Intersections: Faith+Life+Learning, a periodical for and
by the faculty and staff of ELCA colleges and universities. He
was recently
named the Capital Lutheran Heritage Scholar, which involves promoting
the discussion of Lutheran higher education and identity on Lutheran
college campuses.
In addition to Christenson’s address, the
Convocation will feature the recognition of outstanding students
and President Myrvin Christopherson’s
comments on opening his last semester at Dana College.
The event
is free and open to the public. A reception hosted by Dr. Christopherson
and Anne Christopherson, director of special
projects,
will follow the ceremony.
