“ Derek’s going to be an outstanding addition
to the Dana Athletic Department,” said Jim Krueger, athletic
director. “I’m excited because his knowledge of
Dana College and his high moral standards will enable him to
build a top quality cross country program. When Derek was a
student athlete here, Dana was the top cross country program
in the conference and one of the top teams in the country.
I’m confident that Coach Fey has the knowledge to restore
the program to that level.”
Fey said his goal is to develop average runners into All-Americans
using a high-mileage training approach. He believes the women’s
team has the potential to be the strongest team in Dana’s
history, and is looking forward to building both the men’s
and women’s teams into the largest groups Dana has had.
“ I will begin recruiting immediately,” Fey said. “We
are willing to take any ability level and let the program do
its work.”
Fey will also serve as the Vikings’ assistant track coach. He and his
wife, Sandra, live in Omaha.
Dana College is a place where all students actively participate.
They make things happen — in their own lives and in the
lives of others. Through a highly supportive faculty and campus
community, Dana students develop interpersonal skills, leadership
abilities, and other important values and knowledge as they
make choices about their future. Dana’s outstanding academic
programs in business, education and social work, among others,
ensure that students have the knowledge, skills and experience
necessary to pursue challenging careers or placement in graduate
school.
