Planet’ April 28 – May 7

The Dana College Theater will blast off on a wild journey through
space with its spring musical “Return to the Forbidden Planet” April
28 through May 7.
Loosely based on the 1956 film “Forbidden Planet,” this zany jukebox
musical by Bob Carlton incorporates lines from the works of William Shakespeare
and hit songs from the 1950s.
The plot of “Return to the Forbidden Planet” is based
on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” While on a routine
survey flight, an intergalactic starship commanded by Captain Tempest
crash-lands on the planet D'Illyria where the crew encounters mad
scientist Doctor Prospero and his daughter, Miranda, who have been
stranded on the planet for several years. The crew discovers that
Doctor Prospero has developed a formula called X-Factor that makes
thoughts into real objects.
Dana College Theater director Paul Schneider is directing the production with
choreography by Michelle Garrity from the Omaha Community Playhouse and music
direction by Clare Cowing from Dana’s music department.
Rex Gray, lead guitarist with the local group Linoma Mashers, will join Dana
students in providing musical backup for such 50s hits as “It’s A
Man's World,” “Great Balls Of Fire,” “Good Vibrations,” “All
Shook Up,” “Teenager In Love,” “Shake Rattle And Roll” and “Monster
Mash.”
“
With its hilarious lines, fabulous music and out-of-this-world dancing,
this production is going to be a real barn-burner,” Schneider
said.
The 20-member cast includes Dana students Tregan Albers, Nick Albrecht,
Sara Andrews, Joy Augustine, Joe Blackstad, Jaimie Brabec, Tommy
Brandon, Tom Gjere, Jenna Gray, Krista Hein, Tabby Holman, David
Manley, Greg Rickenbacher, Kirk Schjodt, Luther Simon, Katie Spicka,
Christina Ulmer, Lindsay Van Horn, Kori Williamsen and Katrina
Woldseth.
Showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m. on April 28 and 29 and on May 5
and 6, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on April 30 and May
7. Tickets
are only $7.50, and can be reserved by calling Sandy Sonderup at
402-426-7255. Performances will be at Dana’s Lauritzen Theatre
in the Madsen Fine Arts Center, which seats approximately 350 people.
